About the department
The department of Mathematics and ICT is one of the six departments in CBE main campus. The specific objective of this department is to train programs leading to professional qualifications in ICT. The graduates from this department are experts in the following areas:-
- Network Installation and Configuration
- Administration and Management of Network
- Troubleshooting and Maintenance
- PC Installation and Configuration
- PC Maintenance and Repair
- User Support/Help desk
- Database Design, Administration & Maintenance
- Computer and web programming
The department has skilled and experienced staff in the area of Mathematics and ICT. To facilitate students learning, the department has three computer laboratories for tutorial and practical sessions. The laboratories are equipped with internet access, programming software and networking facilities.

I. MASTERS' PROGRAMMES
A. Masters' in Information Technology in Project Management
Specific Entry Requirements
- Bachelor degree in ICT and related disciplines
- Any bachelor degree with at least 30% ICT related courses
- Bachelor degree in Engineering
- Bachelor degree in Project Management
- Postgraduate diploma in ICT and related courses
- Any Masters’ degree with ICT courses
Program Duration
The program’s duration is 18 months. In this period a student covers a course work and dissertation sessions.

B. Masters’ in Information and Communication Technology for Development (ICT4D)
Specific Entry Requirements
- Bachelor degree in ICT and related disciplines
- Any bachelor degree with at least 30% ICT related courses
- Bachelor degree in Engineering
- Bachelor degree in Project Management
- Postgraduate diploma in ICT and related courses
- Any Masters’ degree with ICT courses
Program Duration

II. Bachelor degree program
A. Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSc IT)
Specific Entry Requirements
- Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations (i.e form VI) with at least two principal passes in Mathematics and (or) Physics which adds up to 4.0 or higher.
- Two years diploma in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) or Computer with a GPA of 3.5 and above from a reputable institution.

The program’s duration is three (3) years.

Career Prospects
This program is intended for persons who will analyze, interpret and make decisions, design and manage distributed systems, use advanced techniques of web programming to develop and implement web applications, apply current software engineering techniques to devise software to solve complex problems, apply design tools to create database models, participate in information system development as informed persons and have an understanding of how to inspect and protect information system assets without supervision.
III. Diploma program
A. Diploma in Information Technology (DICT)
Specific Entry Requirements
- Any NTA level 4 in ICT related field from NACTE recognized institution and MUST possess a Certificate of Secondary Education with at least 4 passes including Mathematics.
- Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education with at least one principal and subsidiary passes one of which must be Physics and Mathematics.
Program Duration
The program’s duration is two (2) years.

Career Prospects
This program is intended for persons who will be able to develop and test programs, program web based applications, manage information systems resources, plan and manage networks, develop business plans focusing on entrepreneurship and perform audit assignments, analyze how computer components work and communicate under less supervision.
IV. Certificate program
A. Certificate programBasic Technician Certificate in Information Technology (BCICT)
Specific Entry Requirements
- Certificate of Secondary Education with at least 4 passes excluding religious subjects.
- NVA level 3.

Career Prospects
This program is intended for persons who will assist in performing routine operational activities with IT equipment and accessories: troubleshoot computer hardware and configure basis network; Install computer software; design the web; optimize office procedures; prepare simple programs; maintain computers; under close supervision. Furthermore more they will assist IT users and solve their own day-to-day IT related problems.
